With emotion there comes struggle, the fear of losing somebody for example and with struggle there come emotions.
#JEDI CODE SITH CODE COLLECTOR CODE#
Next we have to look at the Code of the Jedi as understanding the Code of the Jedi is crucial to understanding the Code of the Sith as the Code of the Sith is in direct conflict and reference to the Code of the Jedi.Įach of these codes has to be looked at as one, in my mind you can't just take out one paragraph and try to interpret something into it. The only dark side you need fear is the one in your own heart." If your surrender leads to slaughter, that is not because the Force has darkness in it. Greatness requires the surrender of control.

To be a Jedi is to control your passion, but Jedi control limits your power. What you call the dark side is the raw, unrestrained Force itself: you call the dark side what you find when you give yourself over wholly to the Force. "Light and dark are no more than nomenclature: words that describe how little we understand. It is safe to assume then that the Force is one, seperated into and labeled as "Harmful" and "Not harmful" by sentient beings. Why should a power like the Force divide itself into two? A "Light" and a "Dark" side, which we can practically translate as "Good" and "Evil" side? How is something like a force push more good than force lightning? Who defines what is "Good" and what is "Evil" ? "Good" and "Evil" were made up by the sentient beings, they are no state something naturally is in, they are just labels.

I am just going to assume for now that everybody is familliar with the story of the Sith, how the Sith Empire came to be and so on.įirst of all: Is there even a "Light" and "Dark" side of the force? The answer to the Question has an impact on the interpretation of the Codes. We have to establish some things first before I can really start. There is no ignorance, there is knowledge. Of course my interpretation of the Code of the Sith will be much longer and in depth than the Jedi's because I'm much more interested in the Sith and all but 2 of my characters are imperial. I'm just going to post my thoughts about both the Code of the Jedi and the Sith here. I'm playing my Assasin right now and talking to Ashara is kind of interesting. Since I started playing this game again and for some reason have to go though all of my companions' dialogues again I've been thinking about the Code of the Sith. It be pimpin', yo.Note: I'm not a native English speaker so please excuse my potentially not so super good English.

I'd have actually preferred them not having *any* code other than "Keep your emotions in check, don't let selfish wants and needs get priority over everyone else, and never use your lightsaber as a nightlight. I mean, we know the Jedi *became* rigid and nearsighted and navelgazing, but they didn't *start* that way.

that said, I really dislike the Jedi code that got introduced by the EU, because it's too rigid and sounds too much like the Jedi thought the Force meant *lack* of emotion, which I kinda doubt Lucas would agree with (he says that the actual canon is that there is no Yin/Yang deal with the Force, the Dark Side is corruption of the natural order, it isn't any kind of natural part no matter what the people who think the Empire has cool uniforms might think). But the Sith lords themselves were either the dorks who actually believed the party line (Darth Sion from KOTOR) or those who realized upon being given their Darth-title that "Aw, fucksocks, it's just a bunch of hooey" (at which point it's too late to change your mind without massive sacrifice). It *sounds* all cool and badass and ominous and deep.if you're twelve, or kinda daft/being influenced by the Dark Side to begin with. Having their motto be anything other than "I want I want I want I WANT!" (say it in as childish a voice as you can manage) is like thinking Ted Nugent is a good, partial observer in the whole gun control debate.įor me, the Sith code used in the EU works because it's a false statement, it's basically what Strabo said (the old Al Crowley line) but with a certain Xenu-esque vaguery to it that speaks much of the guys thinking it up only doing so to have something to impress gullible young suckers, err.students.
#JEDI CODE SITH CODE COLLECTOR SERIAL#
The Sith are meant to be 1930's Republic Serial villains, not 1990's antiheroes. I think giving the Sith any kind of *real* point/credence or credible code is missing the point of these guys in the first place.
